"Give or Take Day"
If you are planning a spring clear-out of the attic
or garden shed, or just need to make some more space
in the house, this event is just the thing.
The BPCA held a "Give or Take Day" at its new
Community Centre at 128 Myddleton Road on Saturday 26th
June. The theme was gardening, Bowes Park residents
being invited to bring unwanted plants, seeds, and small
tools and take anything they could use.
Around 20 people and a dog came, goods on offer included
organic rosemary from Bowes Park, hollyhock seeds from
Egypt, a wide range of flower and vegetable seeds, flower
pots, tomato and pepper plants and home-baked bread!
The next event (see below) will be on Saturday, 31st
July, 2-4pm, this time for toys, games and children's
clothes.
Previous Give and Take days have proved enormously
popular with hundreds of people attending and new
homes were found for tons of item; things that may
otherwise have ended up in landfill sites.

Sustainable Haringey Working Groups

There will be a
North
London
Waste Management meeting for Haringey
residents...
On 7th February there was a
meeting to
discuss 'the wide range of waste
facilities needed to manage the waste
produced in North
London. The Plan is in the early
stages of preparation and we would like your views on key issues and policy
options.' It seems they are setting the policies and plans for the next
decade..
The North
London
Waste Plan will identify sites for the

stages of preparation and we would like your views on key issues and policy
options.
A leaflet about this venture is available to

In conjunction with the Forest Recycling Project
and Global Action Plan, the Women's Environmental Network
has produced a guide on Give & Take Days. This may be of special
interest and help to those organizing a day of exchanging unwanted but
usable items (not dissimilar to the Freecycle concept outlined below).

organizing such an event,

Seven North London Boroughs (Barnet, Camden, Enfield,
Hackney, Haringey, Islington and Waltham Forest) are working together as
planning authorities to identify sufficient space for facilities for
managing North London’s waste. The boroughs are in the early stages of
developing a North London Waste Plan which will run to 2020. There are a
range of activities organized by and information available from this
group to find out more about them

Freecycle® at the Bowes Park Community Garden:
After the hugely
successful Freecycle® Event in October 2007, another was held on 5th
April. a Saturday morning in the community garden on Myddleton Road and a further event was held on 12th July,
2008. Watch here for news of further Freecycling!
"Freecycling" is
instant free recycling – people bring along items they no longer
want such as CDs, books, furniture, electrical equipment, and
other household items. If anyone else at the event likes your
item they can take it away, likewise you can take away anything
you want or need. No money changes hands and the only rule is
that people must take away anything they bring that doesn’t get
taken.
