Finsbury Gardens...
...is a small public garden on top of
the underground section of the New River between Nightingale Road and
Truro Road. Earlier this year Haringey put in two new pieces of play
equipment onto the kiddies area, and some new and very noisy metal
fencing. Although it is a lovely piece of space, and has some fine
trees, it has greater potential and is in urgent need of extra love and
attention. A small group of local people has formed itself into the
Finsbury Gardens Group. We have a whole new page dedicated to Finsbury
Gardens and you can go there now by
clicking here.

128 Myddleton Road
Bowes Park Community Association has always wanted to have a place to meet
and organise events in Myddleton Road. We’re pleased to announce
that - as part of the Myddleton Road Renewal programme - Haringey Council
have agreed to pay the lease on a property for one year so that our
community association can finally have a home on Myddleton Road.
You can read a lot more about this by going to our
Community Centre page!

Sponsored Walk along New River
The New River is neither new
nor a river but a 400-year-old man-made waterway between Ware in
Hertfordshire and Canonbury, over 30 miles in total. It used to
play a prominent role in assuring a water supply to London and
(maintained by Thames Water) still makes a contribution to the capital’s
water supply. Here are some photos of our Sponsored Walk along the New
River in 2008.
Poetry Corner
Children in Year 6 of our two local schools took part in a
poetry competition which was part of the 150th Festival.
Congratulations to the 10
winners - 5 from each school.
We have made a small
booklet which can be read or downloaded (in .pdf format) by
clicking here.

Myddleton Road

A long-term plan for
Myddleton Road has been completed. Copies are available by post or email
from Haringey Council Environmental Services. Write to them at 639 High
Road, Tottenham, N17 8BD or call 020 8489 5216.
Many people remember Myddleton Road as a vibrant shopping centre and
meeting place where you could chat to your neighbours and enjoy being
out and about in the area. Trying to bring about improvement in
Myddleton Road has been a priority for the Association because it sits
at the heart of the local community and is a place that we can walk to
for shopping and services.
We know it will not return to being the shopping centre that it once was
but we believe that by bringing in new approaches, such as a focus on
arts, we can attract new funding and help regenerate the area. We are
working with Collage Arts and Haringey to develop a bid to attract
funding for an Arts and Community Centre.
We think that the BPCA has made a difference to the local area and some of
our goals have been achieved. But we believe that long-term change is
needed to really tackle some local problems.
