News August 2011

If you are interested in historic structures and their restoration and repair - then do go and look at work just started in Myddleton Road on the New River Tunnel entrance of 1850.
It has been badly neglected for many years, and they have had to remove the coping stones and take down portions of the walls etc. They are saving the bricks and doing the job to English Heritage Standards. It will be worth popping in to look at work as it progresses. It should look lovely when they have finished it all.  The whole job is set to last 8 weeks.

The two main contracted bricklayers - who have a lot of experience with ancient brickwork repairs - come from Cambridge. They are looking for 2 rooms for the next 2/3 weeks - only Monday to Friday - no meals as they are out all day. If you can help, do contact Bob on 0753 202 1225 or email him at olympic_construction@hotmail.co.uk
There cant be many listed building repair jobs like this. Dont miss it!
Let's all have a party for the Tunnel when the work is done

Pinkham Way Incinerator

North London Waste Authority are hoping to use the land adjacent to Sydney Road, the Muswell Hill golf club and Hollickwood Park with access from the North Circular Road (A406) as the site a huge ‘waste management facility’.

The plans have now been approved by Barnet council and there is a planning application into Haringey council.
What do you think?
Please click here to go to the North London Waste Authority website with more details about what is proposed:
If you are concerned about this development and want to hear what locals are saying about the impact of this plan do contact the Pinkham Way Alliance, please click here to go to their website.

Waste

As you will see from the photos on the left Bowes Park has come a long way since the 2000 when there was a large amount of fly tipping and the council was not quick to respond to this and put in the procedures to deal with this.

Bowes Park still experiences its fair share of fly tipping and incidents where rubbish has been put out at incorrect times by residents of Myddleton Road but the response from the council to remove rubbish dumped on pavements and to communicate the rubbish removal times to the Myddleton Road residents has meant that problems are well contained.
We still need to vigilant as issues can quickly escalate.
It would be great if everyone can play a part in promptly reporting anyone you see fly tipping or to get fly tipped rubbish removed. The details you need are below:
If you see someone fly tipping, please note the time, date, the items being dumped, the location and the registration and description of the vehicule.
