Have you ever
needed a local plumber or a pet walker? A baby sitter or a roofer or a Russian
teacher? Well, the BPCA will soon have the answer: we are working on a directory
of trades people in the area.
It works by
referral: people submit the address and number of their favourite handy person -
be it a babysitter, winder cleaner, plumber, language teacher, or whatever - you
can make a recommendation right now and in order to do so simply
click here for inclusion on the BPCA website.
Before they are
referred, it would be polite to check that the person in mind doesn’t object.
It would not be a recommendation or merely an extension of the telephone
directory: sort of somewhere in between. It would also be useful if you could
include a line about them, for example that they are reliable, punctual etc. So, please send
your suggestions to us and, hopefully, we will soon have a directory of local
trades people and services you can use.

Michiko
Takeoka is a health, body and beauty therapist who is
based on Bounds Green Road. Michiko used to work at a
salon in Muswell Hill and she was recommended to me by a
friend. We both find Michiko provides good treatments at
a reasonable rate. She offers manicures, pedicures,
waxing, facials and body treatments including massage

Painting & Decorating, + |
I would like to recommend Kevin Heffernan who is a local
painter and decorator living in the Bowes Park area. He is most
reliable, arrives on time, gives good advice, gets on with the job, uses
local suppliers (in Myddleton Road) and is totally
trustworthy. Though the majority of his work is painting and decorating,
he can turn his hand to most handyman type jobs. He is certainly worth

I have a friend called
Colin (a Frenchman) who has done pretty much all the decorating work on
our flat (on Palmerston Road). He has made some fantastic cupboards,
smoothed walls, some
plumbing repairs, but the best bit is... he is a master of
sanding floorboards - you need to hire the machine, but the job he does
is beyond compare. So if you have any jobs that need a totally
trustworthy person, who will do a beautiful job and leaves your home
clean and tidy I couldn't recommend him more. His phone number is: 07506

This one isn't particularly local, a plumbing service
based in Hatfield, but I did find them very efficient on three occasions
- turned up bang on time etc. You have to pay the full hourly rate, so

Builders |
I'd like to recommend John Miles of Abbey Builders has
worked a lot in the Bowes Park area in the last few years from his base
in Waltham Abbey. Abbey Builders do all building work including loft
extensions, kitchens, bathrooms and outdoor work including drives and
gardens and can turn their hand to most jobs. John and his team recently
did three months work on our house and were conscientious, reliable and
trustworthy. They did a great job for a reasonable price, gave us good
practical advice and were really concerned to ensure we got what we

I’d like to recommend Colin Campbell as a builder. He
recently organised and carried out substantial renovations to or house
in Wood Green. We’re delighted with the results. Frankly the man was a
godsend, his ability to get work done on time, on spec and on budget,
and to a very high standard was by far the most impressive I’ve seen in

I'd recommend the Green Homes Concierge service - again
not locally-based but may be of interest to BP residents. They were set
up by a property management company and London Development Agency to
help householders 'green' their homes. They'll survey your property for
energy efficiency, make a report and then provide advice on tap for a
year on approved suppliers of energy-saving products and services (loft
insulation, thermostatic radiator valves, draught proofing,
double-glazing, etc) all for £200. I've had a report done and reckon
I've already got my money's worth in advice. In time I'll also get it

N17 and was on my doorstep within 30mins of the first time I called him,
and even shows up on a Saturday! He'll happily try to resolve the
problem in your home, or can take your PC/laptop back to his workshop to
fix it there if you prefer. His rates are very reasonable. |
